Hi from an old friend - a serious post

It has been a long time since I have written anything on this  blog. If this blog was a living thing, I would have gone to jail for negligence!

Anyway, during that long long time, I had fallen deeply in love, gotten myself engaged to a wonderful man, and has gotten married. By the time that I am writing this post, I am only 2 months away from graduating. Graduating to become a doctor. I am so not ready, because the next step, is WORK.

Thanks for the choice Monash Uni, but you just made my life superbly complicated. My husband is working in The Queen Eliz hospital in Adelaide, South Australia. And for the cumulative five months I've been here, I don't feel like working in Australia.

Despite the 8 to 5 (8 to 9pm oncall) hours - which is considered as a luxury in Malaysia;  despite the professionalism - I won't be scolded like a slave and a dumbass; despite the beautiful scenery, despite the lovely people and their thank-yous, and their sorrys, and their good manners, and their driving courtesy...and alas, despite the lovely, irresistable, rain-like money i'll be getting every month if I work here ie RM12 K a month....

I dont want to work here.

Friends and housemen (doktor pelatih) all around Malaysia who is reading this is probably imagining of slapping, slamming, and drilling a hole into my head to find out what is wrong with me. Half of them is cursing me. For guys who dont know why, working as a junior doctor in Malaysia is worse than a slave.

For all it's worth, I have pretty valid reasons. At least, for me.
  • No work satisfaction - this, you gotta ask my husband, Afif.
  • Learning curve - almost stagnant. When you are an intern (houseman) you are essentially a clerk.
  • Difficult to get in most Specialities  eg Surgery -no way youre gonna get it.  (Australian citizens first!! blergh. )
  • I dont like to be looked as a terrorist just because I am a muslim wearing tudung. The TV was too much during the anniversary of Sept 11..Questions like : would you sit beside a muslim on an airplane? wth man.
  • No azan here. Makes a big difference yo. Azan kat computer tak sama.
  • I dont want to come back after two years and my friends are all super terror MOs.
  • I hate the weather.

And, mainly because,

I miss my family. I miss my friends. I miss everything about Malaysia, good and bad. So does my husband.

And we dont want to miss a thing. We dont want to come back on funerals. My dad is 68 years old this year. I want to spend time with him. So is my husband's grandparents, they are not quite in the pink of heath lately.  I mean, what is the point of having lots of money, abundance of free time if you can't share it with your loved ones?

Seriously man, money is not everything. Once I came across a quote saying those who said money cant buy you love obviously do not know the right shops, and I thought it was true and funny. No longer funny babe.

Money do not buy you love. And neither does it buy you happiness.
